Riyue Shuangta Cultural Park

Situated in the heart of Guilin City, Riyue Shuangta Cultural Park is well-known for Sun & Moon Pagodas. Standing in Shanhu Lake and named as “the Landmark of New Guilin”, the two towers are a combination of culture, art, region, architecture, technology and natuer. The Sun Pagoda is built in bronze and the Moon Pagoda, colored glaze. A tunnel which is some 18 meters long under the lake connects the two pagodas. At night, the Sun Pagoda gives out the golden light, and the Moon Pagoda, the silver light with their own shadows in the lake.

With a height of 41 meters and 9 storeys, the Sun Pagoda is the highest bronze pagoda and the highest tower in the water in the world. Every part of the pagoda is completely built in bronze. On the first floor, there is a bronze belt for praying. You can carry the lift to the seventh floor in the tower and walk upstairs to the ninth floor to overlook the surroundings around for the lift only go up to the seventh floor. Buddhist relics, the crystalline substance resulting from the cremation for Lord ShakyamuniBuddha is displayed on the eighth and ninth floor.

When you stand in the ninth floor, you can enjoy Elephant Trunk Hill, Folded Brocade Hill (Diecai Hill), Solitary Beauty Peak (Duxiu Feng) and other attractions around. The ninth floor is the best for appreciating the night view.

With 7 storeys, the Moon Pagoda is 35 meters high. The interior walls, windows and doors of the two pagodas are decorated with carvings and colorful patterns. The cultural display on Confucianism and Taoism is held on the first floor. Among the exhibits are the bronze sculptures of Confucius and Laozi, portrait reliefs, and Tai Chi Drum. Yue Lao (a god of marriage and love in Chinese mythology – an old man under the moon) Pavilion where his statue is stands on the seventh floor. You can pray for your love and your happy marriage here.
